Structural Methodology & Code Compliance

The design frames views toward the surrounding hills while utilizing deep roof overhangs and recessed glazed apertures to eliminate harsh solar glare. Local Ambo sandstone was specified for feature walls, pairing authentic Ethiopian craftsmanship with clean architectural lines.

CHALLENGE 01:

Expansive black cotton clay soils typical of eastern Addis Ababa.

SEMAYI RESOLUTION: Conducted exhaustive soil replacement down to basaltic rock strata and designed floating ground grade beams to isolate residential superstructures from seasonal soil heave.
